It is apparently fashion week here at Girl of Cardigan. Neato.
Today’s Cheap Thrill is a dare, and it’s free, and it’s a challenge I need to take on myself a lot more often. I have a tendency to be one of those girls who wanders the halls of her home bemoaning the fact that she has “Absolutely nothing to wear!” while hundreds of dollars worth of perfectly good items languish and gather dust in the back of her closet. You? So here’s the challenge. It’s simple, really.
Step 1: Go to your closet. Grab something you never wear.
Step 2: Put it on.
Step 3: Start trying on your clothes. If the item you never wear is a shirt, try pairing it with all your skirts, jeans, whatever. Even if you think it will be terrible, try it on. We live in a time when mismatched clothing is hailed as genius, kids. Try it on.
Step 4: Rejoice when you stumble upon a combination you would have never thought up without this goofy exercise. Repeat process with a third piece (a sweater, a hat, an accessory, shoes…) until you have a perfectly fantastic outfit that you’ve never worn before.
Step 5: Make someone take you out somewhere to show it off. Take a picture and send it to meeeeeee!
Here’s what I came up with playing this game. It’s a shirt and a sweater that I never wear, but apparently I like them together. Who knew!:
And since you’re wondering, no, there is no such thing as a photo of me making a normal face. Deal with it.
Go forth and remix your wardrobe! It’s free!
love.
What a great idea! I so need to do this–my closet is seriously out of control. I also am curious about your sweater – did you knit it yourself? If so, what is the pattern? Thanks!
I wish I had. Macys knit it. However, check back Thursday for my spring knitting queue… some similar sweater action there. 😉
What a great idea! I hadn’t thought of remixing…if I don’t wear it, it gets given away, but maybe I just need to find it a friend to match it to…
Love this idea!
And I kinda did it by accident. With someone else’s closet. I was visiting my parents on the wknd and going through my older sister’s cupboard looking for something unrelated and found the best dress ever. I’m sure my mom made it for my sis in, like, 1991 or something. (Back when my mom used to make all our church clothes…) It’s awesome! And it (surprisingly) fits me! Now I just need to find a belt/cardigan to go with it.
