Hi folks.

If you don’t hear anything else I say, don’t miss this: you are an artist.  Somehow, in some way, you’re a creative genius.  You were created in the image of a creative genius.  You’ve totally got this in you.  And to prove it, I have for you a delightfully easy DIY to add to your list of fun to-dos.  (By the way, the first sentence of this paragraph is funny to exactly two people who might read this blog.  I’m sure you were dying to know.)

What you need:

A canvas, or frame with cardboard insides, or piece of cardboard, or any other flat surface

Scrapbooking paper.  So pretty that I buy it all the time, but I don’t scrapbook, so here we are.

A paper cutter, or scissors if you’re super patient.

Ye ole Mod Podge

One of those sponge brushes that cost $.10 or so.

A place you can make a mess.

What you end up with:

How you’re going to get there:

1. Cut your scrapbook paper into strips.  They can be regular or irregular, depending on your personality and the quality of your cutting tools.

2. Cover your flat surface with a layer of Mod Podge.

3. Lay the strips onto the canvas in a random or deliberate pattern.  I’m leaning toward random, but that’s just me.

4. Let dry for a bit, then hit with another layer of Mod Podge.  Presto!  You’ve made art!  You’re an artist!  Look at you go!

(Note: You can customize this project any way you want.  I traced a bird image I found online (this was just for my personal use, FYI.  Don’t sell other people’s stuff.  Draw your own bird) onto old sheet music and layered it on top of my strips in the image above.  Adding letters to the canvas before or after covering it could be super neat too.  Or a picture!)

Go forth and be artists.

love.
