Fashion Remix: Enter Stripes

Remember how we were going to do a new outfit, like, every week?  Yeah, sorry about that.  Christmas happened.  However, here we are with Chapter 3 in the Fashion Remix saga, in which we introduce a very important new friend – The Stripey Shirt.

Now, I must confess to you that I’ve been on the prowl for the perfect Stripey Shirt for quite some time now, and as a result of my quest and the convenient fact that many of them are available for $15 or less, I am the proud owner of not one, not two, but three incarnations of the Stripey Shirt.  That said, with our goal being simplicity and smaller closets, you may use the same Stripey Shirt in any Stripey Shirt incorporating outfit I post, even if I happen to be wearing a different one.  Okay?  Okay.

Tada!  Please ignore the fact that I look bald due to the camera angle and my stunning lack of hairs.  You’ll recognize our old friends Dark Skinny Jeans and Rainboots from our first Fashion Remix moment, here, and The Legwarmers from Remix part deux.   I’ll introduce the new players:

The Stripey Shirt: A little French, a little casual, and just the thing to make you feel fashiony on a day when you mostly feel like a shlump, Stripey Shirt is a rockstar who never, ever goes out of style.  Find one with long or 3/4 length sleeves and enough room that you can belt it or tuck it in without looking like you’re nuts.  I like mine to be a little on the long side.  Or get a few!  They’re cheap and small and tuck nicely into drawers.  If you find one you love, get two and squirrel one away – you’ll wear this sucker out eventually.  This one came from H&M, to the tune of $12.

The Boyfriend Blazer:  Confession: I love the idea of a boyfriend blazer, but boxy things tend to make me look like, well, a box.  So I look for blazers that have wide shoulders and exaggerated length in addition to a nice nipping in at the waist (aka a shape).  This brown one came from Forever 21, I confess, and was about $25, if you must know.  (I don’t usually buy things in black – just habit.  I love the combination of black/white/brown/yellow in this outfit.  We’ll see about bringing that back later.)

The Cozy Cowl:  I’m a knitter (gasp!), so I have about a billion cowls.  You can borrow one.  I suggest having a neutral color and a bright color, or every color if you’re crazy and you keep making them anyway.  This one is actually crocheted, and just in case you want to learn how or you know how and want to jump on the bandwagon, you can find the pattern here, and I used Brooklyn Tweed’s Shelter in Hayloft.  You might have to sign up for Ravelry to get the pattern.  You won’t be sorry.

So there you have it – an easy peazy outfit that still looks fairly put together.  You could throw the Grandpa Cardigan or your Cropped Sweater on in place of the blazer here and be met with fabulous success.  But get yourself some stripes, k?
