For what it’s worth, we loved our Rock n’Play. Big, big love. Still value the village more, but man, that thing was a close second.

  • Amber Cooley November 21, 2013 at 9:11 am

Snuggles!!! Also a good lavender scented bath and lotion for a good nights sleep (well, in spurts, at least).

    • karyn November 21, 2013 at 12:30 pm

Amen to snuggles! So stoked about newborn snuggles. Since Fable was born, I’ve slowly converted everything in our house to smell like lavender. Earth Mama Angel Baby has a great calming lavender shampoo too, whaddaya know? 😉

  • Renee November 21, 2013 at 9:19 am

    A moby wrap!

    • karyn November 21, 2013 at 12:29 pm

Love the Moby. Love love love.

  • Kelly November 21, 2013 at 9:22 am

We love bottom balm! But I want to try the bath blossoms, because we do all of our baths together 🙂

    • karyn November 21, 2013 at 12:28 pm

I love that. I brought Fabes in the shower with me for the very first time a few nights ago, and now I want a water sling so we can do it all the time. She was so happy, and I miss our skin to skin time now that she’s weaned!

  • Becca Borton November 21, 2013 at 9:24 am

    The boppy is a MUST!

    • karyn November 21, 2013 at 12:27 pm

And it’s so fun to say! 😉

  • Jessica November 21, 2013 at 9:30 am

I love the aden + anais swaddle blankets!:)

    • karyn November 21, 2013 at 12:27 pm

So useful! We use them as sunshades now, and love them.

  • Amy Miller November 21, 2013 at 9:32 am

Congratulations! I am a full week past due and can’t wait to welcome my own little boy to the world soon.

    • karyn November 21, 2013 at 12:27 pm

I am sending you all the baby-bringing mojo I can muster! Come onnnnnnnnnn baby! Hang in there, mama. I know these last few days are crazy frustrating. So close!!

  • Beth C November 21, 2013 at 9:50 am

Thankful for your words…we love our fisher price swing..back and forth and side to side..been a lifesaver.

    • karyn November 21, 2013 at 12:26 pm

Side to side swings are GENIUS. That’s on my list for next time around, for sure. Thank you!

  • Dayna November 21, 2013 at 9:52 am

My newborn essential is definitely our ErgoBaby baby carrier! Definitely a lifesaver!

    • karyn November 21, 2013 at 12:24 pm

What would we do without babywearing, I ask you. Do you use the newborn insert? Do you like it? I’d love to chat with someone who loved the Ergo from day one – we definitely didn’t dig it until 3 months and good head control, but usually that has more to do with my failure than the product. Now we’re buckle carrier maniacs. 🙂

  • Shauna November 21, 2013 at 10:19 am

Congratulations on your new little boy! He is adorable!

My newborn essential is probably the Aden + Anais swaddle blankets.

    • Shauna November 21, 2013 at 10:29 am

Wait, I just read further down and I guess this is your nephew? Either way, congrats!

      • karyn November 21, 2013 at 12:22 pm

I will take your congrats either way! 🙂 I also added a few key words, cause you’re right – it was totally confusing. I did not birth this baby. I did watch, though, which was AMAZING.

  • Courtney November 21, 2013 at 10:38 am

Congrats on the new addition! We’re still waiting on our first one (due in May), so I’m enjoying reading the comments of people’s favorite items!

  • Rachel November 21, 2013 at 1:17 pm

My first just turned two and my second is nine weeks. The Moby wrap is my #1! I used it a lot the first time around, but now – wow. I basically live in it.!

Found you through your viral post 🙂 Thanks for writing truth. Good, hard truth.

  • Amy November 21, 2013 at 1:21 pm

If I win this will be a great baby shower gift 🙂 I’m not a mom but have heard from many moms that Arbonne’s diaper rash cream is amazing. It can also be used on things like eczema!

  • Renee Bendler November 21, 2013 at 1:21 pm

    Moby wrap

  • Sarah G. November 21, 2013 at 2:18 pm

      Oh, do I ever.

  • Martha November 21, 2013 at 3:16 pm

I don’t have any favorites yet, but I’m due in March with our first baby, so I’m sure I’ll quickly develop some! I’ve heard good things about this line of products, though, so I’m eager to try them. Really enjoying your blog btw!

    • karyn November 22, 2013 at 8:21 am

      Congrats to you, Mama!

  • Marcella November 21, 2013 at 3:36 pm

Definitely Rock n’ Play, loved ours! And also Wubbanubs!

    • karyn November 22, 2013 at 8:21 am

Wubbanub might be my favorite word of all time. Just sayin.

  • Kim Robbie November 21, 2013 at 4:32 pm

Congratulations on the new addition to the family! What a cutie Sawyer is. Give Katelyn a big congratulatory hug from me. So excited for the entire family!

    love.

    • karyn November 22, 2013 at 8:20 am

I will, Kim! Hugs back to you.

  • Cadie November 21, 2013 at 5:52 pm

I have to have those Aden and Anais gauze fabric blankets. They are so universal: swaddle, tummy time, warm weather, cold weather, nursing cover…and my 18 month old nephews’ favorite, as “woobies”. They weren’t around with my first 7 years ago but I am due with my second in July and I am hoping to get some for my little one! Congrats to Katelyn on little Sawyer; he’s absolutely beautiful. Give her a hug from her former CSUF roomie 🙂

    • karyn November 22, 2013 at 8:20 am

More hugs being passed along for sure. Congratulations to you, Cadie! Glad to hear you’re doing well!

  • Becky @ bybmg November 21, 2013 at 7:42 pm

    swaddle me blankets!

  • cindy baldwin November 21, 2013 at 8:33 pm

Hmm…. for a little while in there, our newborn essential was gas drops. 😉 Nah, I jest. A good carrier! (Wraps & mei tais are my favorites.)

    • karyn November 22, 2013 at 8:19 am

I didn’t discover the mei tai love until about 8 months – dude. Big love. I just passed a wrap along to one of my favorite new mamas – loving knowing she’s rocking our rainbow with her squish. 🙂

  • Erin November 21, 2013 at 8:39 pm

How exciting! New babies are such a wonderful celebration. I was glad to hear your review of these products too. I have heard of them but not gotten to use them myself. Thanks for sharing! Wishing you lots of snuggles with Sawyer!

  • Erin November 21, 2013 at 8:46 pm

My two survival items were my carriers (Moby and Ergo) and the Rock n’ Play. Since my husband was away and baby wanted to be on me all the time (I didn’t mind) the carriers made life possible. The rock n’ play was an emergency, run to Target at 9:00 PM because my baby won’t sleep attempt. He loved it. Something about the angle and coziness. 🙂

    • karyn November 22, 2013 at 8:18 am

Ha! We did the same thing – last minute run to Babies R Us and suddenly everyone slept.

  • Leisha November 21, 2013 at 11:37 pm

We have access to very few of the “essentials” here in rural Tanzania, and we learned really how little was needed, but we certainly appreciated Boudreaux’s Butt Paste.

    • karyn November 22, 2013 at 8:18 am

Hee hee, you said butt paste. Funny every time. 😉

  • Renita November 22, 2013 at 5:07 am

    Slings and wraps!

    • karyn November 22, 2013 at 8:18 am

      Amen!

  • Whitney November 22, 2013 at 5:19 am

The Rock N Play was our saving grace, he slept in that until he was 3 months old. Other Mamas are also essential, especially for new Mamas. I felt crazy for the first month, they save me.

    • karyn November 22, 2013 at 8:18 am

      Yes, yes, yes.

  • Katie November 22, 2013 at 7:27 am

Love the Aden and Anais swaddle blankets!

  • Franci November 22, 2013 at 6:17 pm

Go Karyn! Sponsors and giveaways!! Woot.
Um…I can’t live without my nursing pillow & gripe water:). But I’m also quite thankful for the rock n play this time around… didn’t have it with our first and I’m wondering how we lived without it. With Eleanor I didn’t go anywhere without my exercise ball for the first 3 months;)!
