I am SO excited to have been chosen to be part of Catbird Baby‘s Catbird Seat Blog Project this year. I love being able to team up with companies I love and connect you guys to them. The catbird finds herself the highest place, the most prominent perch, and claims it. She lands herself safely, out of reach but perfectly in sight, and from here she sings out her song, mews out her mocking laugh to the cat below, lets the sun bounce off her feathers and the world below take her in.
You, little bird- you belong in such a place.
You belong closely tethered, breathing your sweet baby breath on my shoulder as we look and listen and sing. You belong here, where I can feel you reach and retract, watch your fingers pointing, and whisper to you the names of the things you seek. You belong in this seat, your catbird seat, where the advantage is yours as you borrow my height and use it to conquer friend after friend after friend, winning them with your unstoppable smile, wowing them with your persistent, babbling song.

Beautiful words and pictures! I’m curious – does your little one not pull your hair in those high back carries? They were my favorite till a few months ago when my now-11 month old got seriously brutal to my poor scalp. These days we do lower back carries, but I miss her being so high!
Thanks, Cindy! Fabes will sometimes pull my hair if I’m in a mood, and she is definitely a stinker when it comes to hats – hers, mine, ours, anybody’s – but usually if I keep moving she’ll leave me alone. I’d say the hair pulling peaked between 10-13 months, so maybe your little one will calm it down again soon. 🙂 Until then, I hear top-knot hairstyles are tres chic!
So right after writing that I decided to try out a high back carry again and what do you know? The hair puking is dramatically less than it was. Before it didn’t matter what style I put my hair in – if it was up out of her reach she’d pull the hairs at the nape of my neck till she got them out… Ow! my little one is in general a rather feisty soul. 😉 but it looks like the occasional high back jaunt is no longer off the table.
