Good Yarn - Girl of Cardigan

So an amazing thing happened this week – the GOC page on Facebook hit 800 likes.  Now, I know that in the grand social media scheme, 800 likes is peanuts, but I tell you what: this time last year, we had 130 likes, and they were all my personal friends and family.  I’m so proud of the way this little blog has grown this year, so grateful for the feedback and the community and the love I’ve felt from all of you, so excited to see where we’ll go from here.  So 800 likes is feeling pretty darn great to me today.  And I want to celebrate.  So we’re gonna.

I wanted to give you something fun in celebration, but I wanted it to be special and meaningful and from me to you instead of a product from a vendor or a coupon or the usual bit.  So today’s giveaway is a little different.  Today, I’m giving you approximately 50 hours of my time in the form of this pretty little shawl.

Lindisfarne Shawl - Girl of Cardigan

Pattern: Lindisfarne Shawl by Angelea McGarrah, available to download for $5 here.

Yarn: Knitted Wit Superwash Merino Fingering in Desire and Silver Lining (local Portland company – have to love that).  This yarn is incredibly soft and light, but still has all the magical wonder powers of wool.  It is not even the slightest bit itchy.  It has a tiny, tiny bit of shine, just enough to make it look, you know, like you tried.  It’s fabulous, luxury, yummy yummy yarn.  It’s super wash, so you can machine wash it on delicate if you must, but it’s a shawl.  Who washes shawls?  Anyhow…

The color is much more stone gray and hot magenta than it appears in these pictures.  It’s a sweet little pop of neon to add to your late winter/early spring outfits.  I can’t tell you the retail value, because as a rule, I do not sell my work unless I really, really, really like you and we’ve been friends for over a decade and you ask me multiple times.  If I’m ever famous, you can auction it off for charity or something awesome.  Don’t hold your breath.

I can’t believe you made that!! I just started knitting (like, literally, this week) and I cannot even imagine being able to do that. Since it will be years before I can produce such an item, I hope I win. 😉

So, so pretty. I’m still learning the basics and hoping one day I’ll be able to make some gorgeousness like this!

You’re not far off! This shawl looks a lot more complicated than it is – little yarn and needles, but a pretty simple stitch pattern. You’ll be there in no time. 🙂
